Interlibrary Loan

SIA Students and Faculty Requesting Material from OTHER Libraries

If you find a resource (book, dvd, periodical article, etc.) that is not available at any local library it may be possible to borrow the item from a library that holds it through interlibrary loan.

Interlibrary loan requests must be submitted by email to: and include as much of the following information as possible:


  • title
  • author
  • publisher
  • year of publication
  • library that holds the item
  • date needed by
  • date no longer needed by


  • title of periodical
  • title of article
  • author of article
  • volume #, issue #, date of article and page #s
  • date needed by
  • date no longer needed by

There is no guaranteed turnaround time for interlibrary loan requests. They can take up to several weeks to arrive. Hence the date needed by and date no longer needed by information required when an interlibrary loan request is placed.

The SIA-NY library cannot confirm all interlibrary loan requests will be placed. Cost and turnaround time are additional factors in considering a request.
